Tateishi, a mecca for drinkers

Tateishi is a Tokyo town with many unique establishments, some with a "sorry to drunk customers" policy, and many such establishments. Each establishment has its own rules, and the moderate tension keeps you upright, and by following the rules and drinking in Tateishi, you feel like you've been recognized as a drinker.

Large-scale land readjustment

The area on the north side of Tateishi Shopping Street, where Uchida and Sakae Sushi are located, is scheduled to be demolished this summer for redevelopment. This will include Nombe Yokocho and Edokko-san Toriboshi, and after the redevelopment is complete, around 2028, Katsushika Ward Office will be moving into the Tateishi North Exit. What a shame.

Hide, whose relocation is undecided

Edokko-san is closing down without relocating. Maruyoshi-san and Torikyu-san have also already closed down, and Hide-san's future seems undecided, so the famous bar that built Tateishi's drinking culture is coming to an end. What a shame.

A great place to drink the finest Hoppy

Tateishi is home to many places where you can drink during the day, but Hide-san, which opens at 5pm, was always my second choice for someone like me who had to take multiple trains to get there. However, Hide-san's "No drunk customers allowed" sign meant that I couldn't stop by, and my unrequited love continued.

Stew and Hoppy

On this day, I only targeted Hide-san. My schedule didn't include any other restaurants, so I arrived at Tateishi Station at 5pm. Since I hadn't had a drink in over 20 hours, I confidently replied "Not at all" to the hostess's question, "Have you had any alcohol?" So, I was ushered to the counter. First, I ordered a barrel of White Hoppy. Their specialty stews are stewed beef tendon, stewed offal, and stewed pork innards. After much deliberation, I chose the stewed pork innards.

The delicate foam of the Draft Hoppy is shockingly delicious, far surpassing draft beer, and it's such a superb Hoppy that you'll regret putting it off until now. The pork belly stew is sweetly stewed and perfectly complemented with mustard for a delicious finish.

Lightly fried chicken hearts and half a glass of fresh Hoppy

Deep-fried chicken hearts, which you don't see very often elsewhere, are eaten with salt.

It's best paired with a half-shot of draft Hoppy. This makes me want to finish off with a black beer.

Black and minced meat cutlet

The butcher's minced meat is packed with flavor and can be enjoyed with either salt or sauce. Salt is perfectly satisfying, but the sauce makes you want to add more. However, once you've added sauce, you can't go back to salt, just like an air conditioner in June. It's a similar feeling, but also a bit different, to turning on the air conditioner on a slightly humid day, only to find yourself unable to resist turning it on even on days that aren't particularly hot.

This may be the last one... Finish with the fine, creamy foam and ice-cold black Hoppy beer wafting through your body.

I regretted not having come here before, but I was also deeply moved. It was a draft Hoppy, after all. Thank you for the delicious meal.
