Bottle recycling to be mandatory from 2030 onwards
The European Union (EU) is considering banning the import of sake from 2030. This is due to new environmental regulations proposed by the EU, which will require the reuse and recycling of bottles and cans, but will not apply to products like sake that are difficult to reuse locally. The Japanese government is working to have sake excluded from this regulation, but the outcome is still unclear. Sake is becoming increasingly popular in the EU, and exports are also increasing, so I hope they make an effort before it's too late.
