[Good to know] New flavors of the wood-scented Japanese sake "BOKKA" have been added, with the scents of three different trees: cypress, maple, and paulownia.
A new challenge for "BOKKA," a Japanese sake with a woody aroma
Three new flavors of "BOKKA," a Japanese sake with a woody aroma, were released in March 2024: "BOKKA-HINOKI," "BOKKA-MAPLE," and "BOKKA-KIRI."
BOKKA was first released on the crowdfunding service Makuake in November 2022, and achieved its goal just a few hours after the project was announced on the first day, becoming a hot topic.
What is BOKKA?
"BOKKA" is a Japanese sake liqueur with a woody aroma. It is made from Junmai Daiginjo sake, which is smoked using a special method to infuse it with the aromas of various trees found in the forest.
You can enjoy the distinctive woody aroma and the mellow taste of Junmai Daiginjo sake.
The barrels used for whiskey are mainly oak barrels, but in Japan there are many different types of wood that cannot be used for barrels.
By combining the characteristics of these Japanese trees with the mellow flavor of Junmai Daiginjo sake, we hoped to create a sake that has a woody flavor never before experienced, and this would serve as an opportunity to expand the possibilities of sake brewing that had not yet been experienced. We continued development and successfully completed the product by infusing the aroma of wood chips heated at high temperatures into the sake using a special method.
How to enjoy BOKKA
Although BOKKA is classified as a sake liqueur in terms of its manufacturing process, it has a fragrant, whiskey-like flavor. We recommend mixing it with carbonated water to create a BOKKA highball.
Because it is based on sake, the alcohol content is 16%, which is lower than that of whiskey, making it easy to drink. The ingredients are only rice, rice koji, and wood chips from various trees, so you can enjoy it with peace of mind.
