A famous stew restaurant reopens after an 8-month hiatus

"It seems that Osakaya will reopen from today."
I received a call from my drinking buddy, Mr. Taniguchi, the owner of Sasa Taniguchiya, a valuable bar in the "Sasamoto" style, a long-established skewered stew restaurant in Tokyo.

Founded in 1924, Osakaya, a stew giant, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. It has been closed since October 2023, and this day marked its first reopening in eight months. I went there with high hopes!

Opening time 4pm

I got a LINE message from Taniguchi saying, "I'm inside, so please let me know." I arrived at 4pm when the doors opened, and when I went inside, it was packed with regulars! But they had saved me a first-class spot in front of the big pot! Thank you so much!

That's right! This magnificent counter made of coniferous wood! The luxurious solid wood counter cut into an arc is incredibly cool!

Bottled beer and stewed skewers

The restaurant had reopened after a long time. The proprietress had only contacted the regular customers, so only regulars were inside the restaurant. When I entered, the noren curtain had already been lowered.

Three skewers of beef sirloin, throat cartilage, and fluffy pork are simmered in a large pot and served to us in five pieces. As expected, beef stew is the stew served at a long-established Tokyo restaurant. We start with a large bottle of Akaboshi sake.

"It's a little sweet today," says the proprietress. The aroma of Hatcho miso and the slightly sweet seasoning permeate my body.

Chuhai

The chuhai not on the menu is a can of Takara chuhai. It goes perfectly with the skewered stew!

5 more and a plum

I order five more bottles and some plum sake. Takara Shochu is available at this famous bar!

Egg soup

Just drop the raw eggs into a large pot without cracking them, and serve them at the right time.Finish with an "egg soup" that you can enjoy with the stew sauce!

That was a delicious meal (said after meals)

Thank you so much for inviting me to the first day of our reopening after an 8-month hiatus! I'm also incredibly grateful for your special cooperation in taking photos!

The unique atmosphere and skewered stew that can only be found at Osakaya. Please take care of yourself and respect the signboard!
