Blog

I like to go to sushi restaurants when I travel, and although it's hard to give up the classic ramen as a final dish, my recent favorite is to stop by a sushi restaurant where you can enjoy local ingredients and have a nigiri sushi or other dish before fading out.

There's almost no sense of guilt, and if you go in with a keen sense of smell, you'll find a down-to-earth, local sushi restaurant that's just right for you and not too expensive, allowing you to finish off your meal in a satisfying way.

Japan is surrounded by the sea, so there are good sushi restaurants in every city!

And so Takara Sushi jumped in, sniffing and wagging his tail.

The green-painted log and stone exterior is complemented by a bold red, blue, and yellow noren curtain! This color scheme might seem out of place in Honshu, but it fits perfectly in Okinawa!

Upon entering, you will be greeted by the sight of Gurukun swimming gracefully in the aquarium. While Gurukun is usually eaten as fried fish, Takara Sushi offers a selection of fresh ingredients that can be eaten as sashimi.

Curry for one with Kumesen beer and water! (Cheers)

The appetizer was tuna with yam sauce. This was exactly the amount I wanted to eat, so it was a pleasant surprise.

Whelk and island octopus sashimi

It was almost 8pm when we entered the restaurant, so many of the menu items were sold out, but we decided to go with the "Whelk and Island Octopus Sashimi" that the regular customer next to us had ordered.

The island octopus was delicious, so I ordered some more nigiri. I also had some salmon roe, which I suddenly had a craving for.

We have another glass of Kumesen aged sake and slowly finish off the meal.

My stomach was full and I was about to say "Thank you for the meal..." when the chef unexpectedly asked me, "Would you like some tebichi?" Even though I was full, I reflexively replied, "Yes, I will!"

Tebichi is the most popular stew in Okinawa, a hidden paradise of stews, with other dishes including Debichi, Nakamijiru, Cartilage Soki, and Hiijajiru.

This is chewy and bouncy and extremely delicious. I didn't have a chance to eat stewed fish when I came to Nago, but I never expected to come across such high-quality tebichi at a sushi restaurant!

"Machizushi" offers more than just sushi; it also serves these kinds of unique menu items. It makes your trip even more enjoyable! It's the best!
