Kamiitabashi “Toribo”
Recently, up-and-coming bars such as Suga no Yu, Ninben, and Watanabe have been opening one after another in Kamiitabashi. Today, Suga no Yu was still fully booked. As expected, I was turned away, so I went to Tori no Sho, a place I had been interested in for a while.

This long-established yakitori restaurant was founded in 1962 (Showa 37). It is currently run by the second-generation owner and several middle-aged female staff members. As soon as you step inside the restaurant, you'll be enveloped in a warm atmosphere and immediately feel comfortable. It's also heartwarming to know that the chef is an elderly woman. It's clear that this restaurant has been loved by locals for many years.
The interior of the restaurant has an old-school layout with a long counter that seats 12-13 people and table seating and a tatami room to the right.

"Are you alone? Please sit at an empty counter."
So, I got a top-notch counter seat with the side dishes and sushi cases lined up right in front of me!
Bottled beer (large bottle)
First, without thinking, I ordered a bottled beer. Bottled beer and PET bottles never disappoint.

Chicken mill
The signature dish is "Thinly Sliced Chicken." I was expecting something thin like tessa (blowfish sashimi), but it was actually a plate filled with boiled chicken breast, each one of which was satisfying and delicious.

Wrapped around bean sprouts and myoga ginger, and tossed with ponzu sauce and grated maple leaves, it's heavenly in one bite.
Eat raw chicken and ascend to heaven! "Tori nobori" for short!
Yakitori
The negima and tsukune meatballs are ordered with sauce. They are large, satisfying yakitori.

Cartilage and cartilage tataki are served with salt.

The meaty Yagen is fatty and juicy, while the seared version has a crunchy texture similar to that of meatball cartilage.
Japanese rice wine
Although I finished the large bottle, I still had plenty of chicken sashimi left, so I ordered another small bottle of Ozeki hot sake.

word used after one has been treated (esp. used after a meal)
This relaxing bar is popular with a wide range of people, from middle-aged men on their way home from work to local grandpas, housewives, and families with children. Kamiitabashi is a fiercely competitive bar district, so be prepared!
As I was finishing my thinly sliced chicken, I suddenly realized... the ponzu sauce was absolutely delicious!
