The izakaya restaurant "Eiyuya Sanchome Branch" in Shinbashi, Tokyo, has been ordered to suspend operations under the Entertainment and Amusement Act for obstructing traffic by setting up tables and chairs on the street without permission. The suspension period is for 21 days, starting from March 21st, and this is the first time in Japan that the Entertainment and Amusement Act has been applied to illegal street operations.

The store's operator, VNTV International, and a female Vietnamese employee in her 30s were referred to prosecutors in November last year on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act. The Metropolitan Police Department had instructed and warned the store more than 60 times not to repeat the illegal business, but as no improvement was made, administrative sanctions were imposed.

In the Shinbashi area, 97 emergency calls were made to 110 between January and November 2023, including reports of "roads being blocked by seats," and the Metropolitan Police Department plans to continue to strengthen its crackdown on illegal businesses.
