There are many theories about how to prevent hangovers, including milk, turmeric, clam extract, and hydration, but few methods have been medically proven to be effective. Although blood alcohol levels are less likely to rise after eating, increasing the amount of alcohol consumed does not necessarily prevent a hangover. There is also insufficient evidence that milk, supplements, and herbal medicines are effective. Neither mixing alcohol nor hydration has shown a definitive difference. The NIH clearly states that "the surest way to prevent a hangover is to not drink too much, or not at all." While you are free to try various measures, it is important not to be overconfident, and the most important thing to do to enjoy alcohol for as long as possible is to stick to a moderate amount.
