Once you find a good restaurant, you tend to go there all the time.

In Akihabara, that place is "Tawaraya." On this day, I just casually opened the door and was greeted with the words "We're full." So I headed to "Sakatsubo," which I had bookmarked for just such an occasion.

Akihabara is known for its electronics district and otaku culture, but if you cross Showa-dori from the station towards Asakusabashi, you'll find an exciting drinking area.

Sakatsubo was founded in 2003, and is now in its 22nd year. The unfamiliar kanji character "卣" is apparently the name of a bronze vessel used to hold sake.

When I stepped through the noren curtain, the restaurant was bustling with white-collar regulars, and the table seats were almost full, but there was one seat available at the counter, so I slipped in!

The 74-year-old owner and his part-time staff work together in this formation. At the entrance to the restroom, there is a board with the names of past part-time staff written on it, and you can imagine them coming back for drinks calling each other "Master!" even after they have left the bar and become adults.

Bottled beer (medium size) 550 yen

First, without thinking, start with a bottle of beer.

Bottled beer and pets never disappoint.

Marinated mackerel 500 yen

As I was looking over the menu, I came across the marinated mackerel that was highly recommended by a regular customer. It was neither too marinated nor too lightly marinated, just the right amount of seasoning.

The food was as good as its reputation, and after just one dish I felt at ease with all the other dishes!

Seasonal Mekabu grated yam 380 yen

This incredibly delicious dish is made with crunchy mekabu seaweed topped with dried small shrimp, sesame seeds, and bonito flakes.

The more you eat, the healthier you will become.

Green juice highball 450 yen

This is Aojiru High, which makes you healthier the more you drink it.

Oops! What a surprise! It's so hard!

Octopus brain sashimi 500 yen

"Octopus Head Sashimi" is a killer dish that will make you ask, "Is this really octopus?"

On behalf of all octopuses, I would like to thank you for making the not-so-popular octopus head so delicious!

Myoga cucumber 400 yen

This salad is made with two of the most popular summer vegetables, ginger and cucumber. It's also perfect!

The reason we were able to come here was because Tawara-ya was fully booked and turned us down. A dramatic turnaround that turned a crisis into an opportunity!

The toilets are decorated with nude photos of Rie Miyazawa and soothing messages for drinkers, so if you're interested, go and see for yourself!
