Kohama was founded around 1955 (Showa 30).
Currently, the third-generation owner, who also serves as the accountant for the area known as "Hirokoji," is contributing to the local community and continues to run this historic izakaya alone.

Nemuro is a fishing town. When it rains, boats can't go out, so fishermen pour out into town like frogs, drinking and throwing money around until the morning. That was the bubble era that existed in Nemuro 50 years ago.
Nemuro "Kohama"
The first owner opened a huge izakaya about 70 years ago, with seating on the second floor.

The second generation chef, who had been working at a Chinese restaurant in Osaka, was called back to train at New Kaori, a long-established Western restaurant in Nemuro, before taking over Kohama.
Furthermore, the second generation inherited the know-how from the sushi chef who worked under the first generation, and actually ran the restaurant as a sushi restaurant. You can still see traces of the sushi display case that once stood at the back of the counter.

It has been 15 years since the current third generation owner took over the restaurant. It opens after 8pm and, depending on the number of customers, may not close until the early hours of the morning - it continues to be loved by locals as a "real late-night diner."
Highball
At the third bar, I started off with a Black Nikka highball.

cucumber
My stomach was somewhat full, so I cleared my mouth with some lightly pickled vegetables.

cold sake
I enjoyed the conversation with the chef, and after finishing my highball in no time, I switched to a cold Kita no Katsu sake.

Rice porridge to finish off the meal
Apparently chilled ramen is popular in midsummer, but it was chilly that day, so I ordered the "chicken salt rice porridge."

The delicious homemade salted soup is topped with plenty of finely chopped chicken. A favorite among bar staff and drinkers in the area, this is the perfect final dish in Nemuro.
word used after one has been treated (esp. used after a meal)
