Blog/Nikko Misto] Two Signatures: Tempura and Sushi. A good start at Tomakomai "Ebiten"!

Blog

Tomakomai, the town of Oji Paper

Tomakomai is the fourth most populous city in Hokkaido, after Sapporo, Asahikawa, and Hakodate. Over 100 years ago, Oji Paper's factory was built in search of clean water flowing from Lake Shikotsu, and the city grew and expanded from there. This is the city that Oji Paper has made possible.

Located in Omachi Ginza,Shrimp tempura" is a long-established bar that was founded in 1947 and is run by a married couple. As you enter, there are six counter seats on the left and a spacious tatami room on the right, so it looks like it would be a great place to enjoy yourself whether you're alone or in a group.

Now for the shrimp tempura

As the name suggests, tempura is their specialty, but their nigiri sushi is also delicious, making them their signature dish. Or rather, they have a strong style of only serving tempura and sashimi. When I walked in at the opening time, there were no customers yet, so it was like being in the free seating area at the start of the day. I managed to get a counter seat right in front of the display case.

Oops! The towels are fluffy and smell wonderful!

Black Label (medium bottle)

Let's start with a bottle of beer and some lightly pickled vegetables. Bottled beer and pets never disappoint!

Assorted tempura (pine)

And then there's the signature assortment of tempura.

The plate contained two shrimp tempura, two squid shiso leaves, whiting, snow crab, maitake mushrooms, green peppers, and eggplant. There was no salt, and the tempura sauce was simply delicious.

Ebiten's special shot of shrimp tempura!

Surf clam sashimi and cold sake

You can choose between sashimi and nigiri for the ingredients displayed in the display case. Since I wanted to go to a few more places after this, I ordered sashimi. The surf clam, a Tomakomai specialty, is delicious with its crunchy meat, strings, and adductor muscles. It's in season all year round!

From the North Country, we were given a cold glass of "Otokoyama," a sake from Asahikawa that was always available at Kuroita Goro's house.

Mmm, Mandom♪ A good start in Tomakomai! I think it was the best choice for the first stop.

Ebiten is a bold restaurant that only serves tempura and sashimi. I really wanted to try sushi, but I'll save that for another time! Thank you for the meal!
