Fukube 86th Anniversary
Fukube is a long-established restaurant in Yaesu that was founded in 1929 (Showa 14). On March 4th, they celebrated their 86th anniversary, so we made a reservation and headed there for their opening day.

My goal is the "Mystical Stew of Motsunabe," which has only been served on the anniversary since the restaurant's 75th anniversary. I enter the restaurant with a heavy heart, eager to get my hands on this dish.

In 2022, Fukube underwent a year-long renovation. Previously, there were several four-person tables on the first floor, but now there is only an L-shaped counter. The proprietress and young master run the counter, and there is a lively exchange between them and the regulars. I have only ever been there alone, so I have never been there, but if you come with a group, you will be guided to the second floor.
Bottled beer
You can choose between small and large bottles of bottled beer. We started off with a small bottle to enjoy the delicious Kiku Masamune beer that follows.

Marinated mackerel
Start your drink with a well-marinated mackerel. As you savor the taste and snack, your body will subliminally enter sake mode.

Warm sake
I finished the small bottle in an instant and then moved on to Fukube's signature Kikumasamune barrel sake. I enjoyed it warm, as recommended.

I may be biased, but it's really delicious!
Stewed offal
I've been waiting for this!
Thick half-moon slices of daikon radish, konjac, and pork intestines simmered in a gentle miso sauce with the aroma of ginger.

At first, I thought the stew was just haphazardly arranged, but when I looked at the stews ordered by other customers, I saw that they were all arranged the same, even down to the placement of the daikon radish and the shape of the konjac. It was clear that careful work had gone into it!
cod roe
I ordered the seared "Tarako" (seaweed cod roe), a recommended dish written in red. The exquisite saltiness and fragrant aroma made it perfect for drinking sake from a barrel.

I've got the perfect item to keep drinking sake forever!
Cod roe and sake. They complement each other well, making this a great pairing that would put even Chunichi Dragons' Ibata Araki to shame!

I sipped on some cod roe and poured four cups of barrel sake, and it was a delicious meal.

The refinement of the customers and the young master's witty retorts. Fukube has a stylish drinking style that makes you stand up straight, a style that is common to all legendary bars. Thank you for visiting!
