When did izakayas, which continue to fascinate drinkers, come into being, and how have they become so popular? This time, Professor Kenji Hashimoto of the Faculty of Human Sciences at Waseda University, author of "The Postwar History of Izakayas" (Shodensha Shinsho), who conducts fieldwork by touring izakayas as both a hobby and research, will be the lecturer, and we will be holding a three-way discussion with Norihito Fujiwara and Shinro Hamada, who have both published numerous books on tasting bars.
The three were friends who wrote the serial "Izakaya Expert Blog Trio's Trivia" in the magazine "Kenten Sakaba," whose founding editor-in-chief is Kiwako Kurashima, who is also well-known for her "Sake Banashi" (Sake Stories). Gathering together for the first time in over a decade, the three will discuss the history of izakayas and the evolution of the sake that has been loved by the public, over a drink in hand.
