Shintoku Town, HokkaidoSahoro Sake Brewery" is expected to close as early as September. The company was established in 1988 as a third-sector venture and became a factory for a major sake brewery. Since 2011, it has been producing shochu using buckwheat, a local specialty of the town.
However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and the deterioration of employees' health, the company decided to close down. Going forward, the town plans to explore other ways to utilize the land and building.
