The thatched-roof restaurant "Mingei Chaya Magobei" will close at the end of November. The owner has been juggling two tasks: preserving the original manuscript of Matsuo Basho's "Oku no Hosomichi," which has been designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan, and running the "teahouse on the mountain pass" on the border with Shiga Prefecture. However, due to physical reasons, he has decided to close the restaurant at the 50th anniversary milestone.
