What is "Aru American Oak 30 Years"?
"Aru American Oak 30 Years Old" is an aged Iki shochu made by a brewery in Iki City, Nagasaki Prefecture, known as the birthplace of barley shochu. Production began in 1989, and the shochu was aged in American oak barrels for approximately five years, allowing the aroma to develop, followed by 25 years of further aging, for a total of 30 years. Its soft texture belies its high 28% alcohol content. The brewery's unique "Wa-mizu aging" method, in which water is added to the distilled raw liquor before aging, creates a refreshing aftertaste. This "unknown" flavor, lacking even a hint of age, opens a new door in the world of shochu.
Shochu aged for 30 years in American oak! I'd love to try just one sip.
