Sake-no-Tsukkimonogatari] "Japan's longest shopping street," exceeding Osaka's Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street with a total length of approximately 3 km, will be born in Asakusa.
Four shopping streets along Kokusai Street in Taito Ward, Tokyo, have been formed as the Tokyo Kokusai Street Promotion Association, and will step up their promotion both domestically and internationally as the new "longest shopping street in Japan."
Kokusai-dori is a street about 3 kilometers long that runs from the northern part of Taito Ward to the west side of Sensoji Temple, and was named in the Showa period as the main street that ran in front of the Asakusa International Theater. The launch of this project was the idea of the chairman of the Asakusa Kokusai-dori Shopping Street Association, and is a collaboration between the "Hitobazakura Good Luck Promotion Association" and "Hitobazakura Kokusai-dori Promotion Association" on the north side, and the "Kuramae Shopping Street" on the south side. While maintaining their individual organizations, promotion associations have been formed, with over 240 stores participating.
The area aims to develop by taking advantage of the fact that it is longer than Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street in Osaka City (approximately 2.6 kilometers).
