Lotte Co., Ltd. will begin selling limited quantities of "Bikkuriman Whisky OKINAWA ISLAND BLUE" in collaboration with Kumesen Brewery Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture; President and CEO: Yoichi Higa)'s "Okinawa ISLAND BLUE" series, which has won gold medals for two consecutive years at the world's three major liquor tasting competitions. The fourth installment of the Bikkuriman Regional Revitalization Project aims to encourage people to experience the charm of Okinawa, and features a lineup of four original designs, three exclusive to stores and one exclusive to the online shop. In January 2023, we launched the first Bikkuriman Regional Revitalization Project in partnership with the Higashi-Oumi region of Shiga Prefecture. We have implemented the project multiple times, receiving a great response with the second project in Sakaiminato City (Tottori Prefecture) and the third project in Otsu City (Shiga Prefecture). A common theme throughout the project was the many compliments we received, such as, "The whole town has become more energetic through this project." We are extremely pleased to be able to contribute to society by using the Bikkuriman brand to promote the charms of the region. About Kumesen Brewery
Founded in 1952, this awamori manufacturer is based in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture. With the motto of "Advanced sake brewing that creates a prosperous present and future," the company is constantly taking on new challenges. In recent years, they have developed whiskey that takes advantage of Okinawa's unique subtropical climate, and are constantly bringing innovation to the industry, opening the industry's first whiskey specialty store, "OKNIAWA BLUE Naha Airport Store," at Naha Airport, as well as the "OKINAWA BLUE Heiwa-dori Store" just off Kokusai-dori Street, and this year their third store, "OKNIAWA BLUE Ichiba Hondori Store."
This is a new-generation whiskey that makes use of the techniques used to produce aged Awamori from Okinawa, the birthplace of Japan's shochu culture. The quality of this liquor inherits the "continuous maturation" characteristic of aged Awamori, and by storing and aging it in barrels, the gorgeous sweet aroma of the barrel is beautifully fused with the mellow body derived from the rice, resulting in a unique whiskey flavor.
