A research group at Saga University has announced that people whose faces turn red when they drink alcohol (those prone to Asian flushing) are less likely to be infected with the new coronavirus.

Research has shown that people with an Asian Flush constitution have about one-fifth the infection rate compared to people without the constitution. This constitution has a weak aldehyde detoxification enzyme, and it is thought that high formaldehyde levels in the body may help protect against viruses. The research results were published in the International Medical Journal of the Japanese Society for Hygiene.
