Hamada Shuzo will launch "DAIYAME 40," a honkaku imo shochu (sweet potato shochu) that has been marketed overseas, in Japan on February 17, 2026. Based on the kojuku brewing method of the popular "Daiyame" brand, known for its gorgeous lychee-like aroma, the shochu has been designed to concentrate the aroma and flavor, with an alcohol content of 40% that makes it suitable for use as a cocktail ingredient. Characterized by a fruity, rich flavor and a long finish, it is highly acclaimed by bartenders around the world.
The product has won numerous awards at international liquor competitions such as IWSC and SFWSC, and is expected to be developed for the bar market and for use in mixology cocktails. It will be sold domestically at liquor stores, hotels, bars, department stores, and online stores, and will aim to increase awareness through event exhibits and industry collaborations. The company is also considering cultivating demand as a gift.
The product name "Daiyame" means "to soothe fatigue with an evening drink" in the Kagoshima dialect. The black-based bottle design expresses the Satsuma culture and commitment to black koji, and aims to spread Japanese shochu culture both domestically and internationally.
