Wu Huawei (66), the Chinese owner of the Chinese and seafood "value-for-money bar" "Rakusho" in Kachidoki, was arrested on suspicion of stealing fish bones from Toyosu Market.
He was arrested by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department on the night of Friday, November 21st, on suspicion of breaking into the collection point of Toyosu Market and stealing approximately 30 kilograms of tuna bones and other "offal" material (valued at 210 yen at the time). Security cameras reportedly recorded him loading styrofoam into the carrier and front basket of his bicycle and stuffing the offal into the material. The suspect, who frequently visited the market, stated that he "thought he could eat it if he cooked it," and served the stolen offal as "kamayaki" (grilled bones) at his shop or made meatballs himself to eat. A similar incident occurred the following day, and amidst the vigilance of market personnel, he was reported when he happened to appear. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating whether he may have committed any other crimes.
