Kumesen Distillery will release its first malt whiskey since its founding, "Naha Distillery Single Malt Newborn 2025," on September 10th, with a limited run of 1,200 bottles. The blender carefully selected the whiskey they felt was "perfect for the taste right now" from the barrels currently aging at the Naha Distillery, and bottled it in a single cask. Made with domestic malt and medium-hard water from Okinawa's famous Kakinohanahigawa River, the whiskey is gently aged in refill barrels.
It comes in a 200ml bottle with an alcohol content of 50%. It costs 4,950 yen (tax included) and is only available through mail order, including the official online shop, Rakuten, and Yahoo! Stores. The aroma has nuances of cacao and grains, while the flavor is smoky and sweet-and-sour, with accents like plums from cheap candy, and a youthful, refreshing citrus finish. The label also includes the distillation date, barrel type, and serial number, all handwritten.
The Naha Distillery is a facility where Kumesen Distillery, known for its awamori, has been trying its hand at producing whiskey since 2021.
