Why is October 1st "Sake Day"? There are two reasons why October 1st was designated as Sake Day. One is that October marks the beginning of the rice harvest, marking the time when sake breweries across Japan begin brewing. The other is that October is the zodiac sign for "Rooster," and the kanji character "Rooster" originally refers to a sake jar or sake itself. In addition to Sake Day on Sunday, October 1st, 2023, and the nine days leading up to it, from Saturday, September 23rd (national holiday) to Sunday, October 1st, 2023, we will hold "Sake Toast! Week," an event where participants can experience the deliciousness of sake and the joy of toasting. In collaboration with prefectural sake brewers' associations, sake breweries, restaurants, and liquor stores, we will hold sake toast events across the country.
