The 19th Whisky Proficiency Test will offer at-home exams for the basic Level 3 and Level 2 exams, as well as the Japanese Craft Whisky (JC) level, which focuses on questions about Japanese craft distilleries, which have been gaining global attention in recent years. Participants will receive an exam kit (questions and answer sheets) by mail before the exam period, and can take the exam at home or elsewhere within the designated period, making it easy for even those who live far away to take the test.
The whiskey proficiency test has a wide range of textbooks and question books
The "New and Expanded Edition: Official Whisky Examination Textbook," revised for the first time in five and a half years, thoroughly explains the basics of whiskey, starting with the definition of whiskey and its ingredients, as well as the manufacturing process, the history of the world's top five whiskeys, and notable distilleries both in Japan and overseas. The "Japanese Whisky Yearbook 2024," which also serves as a textbook for the Japanese Craft Whisky (JC) level, introduces 114 distilleries, from newly established to those in preparation. This book is not only useful for exam preparation, but also for whiskey tourism.
The "Whiskey Examination Official Question Book" is an essential resource for checking question trends and difficulty levels, and for completing your studies. "Whiskey Examination Official Question Book Level 3 vol.3," "Whiskey Examination Official Question Book Level 2 vol.3," and "Whiskey Examination Official Question Book Level JC vol.2," which contain exam questions from the 16th to 18th exams, are currently on sale.

The test aims to help people learn more about whiskey and enjoy it more, and tests all knowledge about whiskey, including its production methods, history, culture, and trivia. The Whisky Test, which began in 2014, held its 18th test in February 2024, with a cumulative total of approximately 30,000 applicants.
For example, not only can you learn about whisky itself, such as "What are the ingredients of whisky?" and "What is the origin of the word whisky?", but you can also learn about the background of how whisky culture was developed, such as "What kind of region is Scotland, where Scotch whisky is produced?", to make whisky even more enjoyable.
The test is popular not only among those who enjoy it as a hobby, but also among those who work with alcohol, who say that it allows them to "learn systematically through textbooks" and "reaffirm their knowledge." The test is a multiple-choice test (some levels include written questions), and even beginners to whiskey can easily take the test.
