Oimachi has developed as a corporate castle town for Nikon, one of Japan's leading optical equipment manufacturers, and as the home of a huge Japan National Railways (JNR) rolling stock plant that has supported Tokyo's railroad system since the Meiji era. Oimachi is a town where workers gather and there is always a good bar. Even today, the narrow alleys are lined with small bars that tempt the drinker.
