Fukuroi, the town of melons
Fukuroi city in Shizuoka prefecture is a producer of high-quality melons, and it seems that even the famous "Sembikiya" restaurant uses melons from Fukuroi. Fukuroi is a world-famous producer of high-quality melons, so much so that former British Prime Minister Thatcher praised it highly. What's more, it seems that the people of Fukuroi had a bubbly way of drinking Hennessy in melon. *This was revealed to us by a regular customer of Shimikin.

The birthplace of Omoro
Leaving the melon aside, the local stew "Omoro" from Fukuroi and Iwata is a sweet and spicy stew of pig's trotters. The birthplace of Omoro, "Shimikin," is a long-established bar run by a married couple in the second generation, and apparently used to be a traditional Japanese restaurant where important people from the town would come and have dinner.

Let's go to Shimikin
The restaurant is run by a female proprietress and a chef. In addition to the specialty "Omoro," the menu also includes unique names for Kobukuro, such as "Furusato," and Nodobue, such as "Nan-Nan." By the way, the female proprietress calls the chef "Hiroshi-kun." They have a great relationship.

Famous Omoro
Let's start with Omoro (600 yen). After simmering for several hours, the pork trotters are further seasoned with soy sauce and sugar to enhance the flavor. They are stewed until they are soft and tender, with no odor whatsoever, and you'll be hooked on them. Mmm, I can't stop drinking Super Dry.

Stuffed green peppers
The stuffed meat (500 yen) is made by putting stir-fried meat inside a green pepper and baking it, and the meat juices overflow when you eat it.

Shizuoka tea cocktail
The tea cocktail is a mix of Shizuoka-produced deep-steamed tea and barley shochu "Suzume." The proprietress boils the tea every morning, and former yokozuna Wajima apparently bought two 2-liter bottles.

Green pepper skewers and cold sake
We finished off the meal with a relaxing drink of "Honjozo Tsuu", a sake made with rice from Shizuoka Prefecture, and some delicious-looking bell pepper skewers in the display case.

That was a delicious meal (said after meals)
As expected, the town's leading bar is the most fun. I was very satisfied with the food and drinks, as I was able to get a real feel for Shizuoka! I want to come again!
