Machiya "Marufuku"

Just off the Toden Arakawa Line, you'll come across aMarufuku" Machiya has long been home to many small factories, including woodworking shops, and this long-established restaurant is popular among locals, catering to the appetites of the workers who work in Machiya, both as a restaurant for breakfast and lunch and as a place to drink in the evening.

Founded in 1958 (Showa 33), the restaurant is run by a third-generation husband and wife team, and is open every day from 7am, just as it was when the restaurant first opened. While the exterior remains the same, once you enter you'll find tatami seating and table seating, with a large kitchen at the back, preserving the traditional layout.

Although it is old, it is well-maintained, very clean, and extremely comfortable!

The first thing that catches your eye is the beautifully written menu on the blackboard. The artistically written menu in Mincho font is captivating.

Bottled beer (large bottle)

The bottled beer is available in large bottles, with a wide selection of brands to choose from, including Kirin, Sapporo, and Asahi. Bottled beer and PET bottles never disappoint!

It seems that Kirin's factory used to be located on the Toden Arakawa Line, and treasures from that time are on display in the store's showcases.

I regret a little that I chose Sapporo without thinking about it. Argh!

fried egg

Fried eggs are a staple in the morning, and for some reason, I always order them whenever they're available - they're a jet lag remedy. I prefer fried eggs with soy sauce!

It's perfect for a sleepy stomach in the morning, and is a great starter for those just starting to drink.

Fried squid

Crispy fried squid with Neapolitan, just like you'd expect from a set meal restaurant! I prefer fried squid with sauce!

May squid and horse mackerel and mackerel always be the friends of the common people!

Silver cod marinated in Saikyo

The thick, meaty cod is grilled in our own homemade Nishikyo-zuke (seasoned Kyoto-style broiled fish) and paired with hot Yaeju sake from Akita.

An unbeatable combination...no, the strongest combination!

That was a delicious meal (said after meals)

Delicious, cheap, and comfortable, Marufuku is a great place to stay, offering everything from morning to night. Surrounded by Showa-era negative ions, it's a perfect detox!
