A long-established izakaya restaurant next to the Fukuoka Boat Race, which has been popular among Tokyo drinkers as "Fukuoka's New Kayaba."Sake Shop Hiro" announced on its official Instagram that it will be closing on January 8, 2026.
The reason for the closure is said to be eviction due to the construction of a skateboard park planned by Fukuoka City.
The restaurant has been in business for 50 years, from the Showa era through the Heisei era and Reiwa eras, and for over 30 years since the current owner took over. It is known as a famous restaurant that attracts many long-time regular customers as well as "pilgrims" from far away, having been featured in various media outlets, including NHK's "Document 72 Hours."
There's not much time left until the curtain falls on the history of Sakadokoro Hiro. Fans and those who have never been there before should definitely take a final look. Thank you for all your hard work over the years.
